Resolutions for the New Year 2010
Myself, I quit smoking 5+ years ago and if this is one of your resolutions, do it. I've never felt healthier. I smoked for 10 years and started to get warning signs of emphazima at the age of 26. I was totally shocked and was determined to quit then and there. I did it cold turkey. Well, not entirely. I bought one of those "help quit smoking" systems, but found that the dosage was for a heavier smoker than I was. I then turned to mini blow pops of all things. The larger ones hurt my jaw, but the mini ones were perfect! It would take about 5-10 minutes to devour one and I had the stick to chew on afterward. I kept my blow pops in a small pouch I carried in my purse. After about two to three weeks, I was smoke free. I did try a cigarette a couple months later and was so incredibly sick for a few days. I'm also pretty sick of blow pops too. The early signs of emphazima are gone and I am living a lot healthier! Do it at your own pace and find something that helps. Determination and perseverance will help you through anything. Just keep at it and you can do it too.
Losing weight is something I'm still struggling with. Although I am happy to say I am 30 pounds lighter now than I was at this time last year. I do have a while to go, but knowing my loss so far helps me go further. Unlike smoking, weightloss is a thousand times harder. We all need to eat and the grocery stores do not make things easier. All the junk food, candies, chips, sodas are all up front and in your face. It's like you have to put blinders on just to pick up some milk! I've tried losing weight several different ways and now in my early 30's have found a much healthier way of going about it. When I was in high school, I ate little to nothing, exercised too much, and of course, smoked. I was thin. I reached 130 lbs and was a size 10-12. For me this was skinny. However, once I began to eat, it came back and brought friends. In college, I ate for comfort. After college, funds were tight so I ate what we could afford. Now, I am at Weight Watchers, taking care of my health, and have been looking for a good exercise program. People are three times more likely to lose weight and keep it off with help from others. So that's what I am doing. If there is a program out there you'd like me to review, let me know. If you need support to help you reach your goals, Send me a message.
The resolutions I have made for myself this year are in my mind attainable. I've heard of people who set goals or resolutions for themselves that are impossible and this sets themselves up for failure each year. Don't do that. The idea of resolutions is to make a more positive future for yourself. I want to lose 100 lbs., but my goal is to lose another 30 and keep it off. I am hoping to be more creative this year with my shop by drawing more ideas and talking with people who can help my shop grow. I want to get a Master's degree, so I resolved to talk to people about where and how to go about doing this. Baby steps will help me succeed. Now I'll say the phrase many people tell me over and over again. "You need to crawl before you can walk", but when I was a baby I went from sitting to walking in no time so this phrase doesn't help me. I do know that for me to succeed, I need to set manageable goals. I tell myself that in order to climb a mountain, I need the right gear, the proper training, and the resources to handle what comes my way. Like anything in life, determination and perseverance are key.
No matter what you resolve to do this year, have fun. I don't know if the world is ending or the sky will fall. What I do know is life is short and I need to do the best I can each and everyday. Till next time, be creative and never stop trying.

Something to see
I began to read the article on Yahoo. Fede Alvarez, a producer from Uruguay, spent $300 to create this short film and now has a $30 million dollar deal to create a full length movie. Check out the full story here.
